Peña is a hidden gallery. No matter how long one takes to observe the block in which it is located, no signs of art exhibitions will be found, unless one knocks on the door and walks downstairs to a hotel basementペーニャは隠れたギャラリー。どんなに目を凝らしてこの近くを探しても、展覧会の案内を見つけることはできない。ドアをノックし、ホテルの地下へ降りていって初めて、大きなスペースの中に素晴らしい現代アート作品が並んでいるのを目にすることができる。
ペーニャはアーティストのジェラルディン・シュウィントとキュレーター精神を持ち合わせた建築家のロザリオ・グイラルデスによって設立された。プロジェクトは、生活の毎日のリズムの一環として、アートを取り入れる事をベースとしている。
『私たちはキュレーターの活動の限界と、創造的なコラボレーションを通しての変化の可能性の限界を探る事に興味があります。コミュニケーションの行為としての展示に関しての私たちの最終目的は、新しい思考の記録として、芸術的なものに開かれた対話を促進することです。』と、ジェラルディンとロザリオは語っている。
ペーニャでは、イベント、ワークショップ、カンファレンス、パフォーマンスから構成された、若手アーティストによる展覧会プログラムを開催している。彼らは、『私たちのモチベーションは、積極的に個々のアーティストを支援していき、そして彼らの作品についてより深い知識を多くの方々に提供する事です』と言う。
展覧会からは、最小限でありながら型にはまらない展示を提供するための不断の努力が垣間見える。このギャラリー精神が生み出す印象深い展覧会は、観客の訪問を刺激的なものへと変えてくれるのだ。

Peña is Geraldine Schwindt, an artist, and Rosario Güiraldes., an architect with the spirit of a curator. The project is based on an approach to include art as part of the daily rhythm of life.
‘We are interested in exploring the boundaries of the curator’s actions and the potential of change through creative collaboration. As regards the exhibition as an act of communication, our goal is to facilitate dialogue as a way to open artistic practice to new records of thought,’ Geraldine and Rosario say.
Peña is centred on a programme of exhibitions by young artists, which comprise events, workshops, conferences and performances. ‘Our collective motivation is to actively support artists in their individual practice and provide the public with a deeper knowledge about these practices.’
The spirit of the gallery is fresh: in its stripped down but intense exhibitions an intention of constant search for unconventional proposals is felt, which transforms the visit into a stimulating tour.
