Whitestone Gallery, this year celebrating its 50th anniversary, opened its fourth space in Taipei on 2017. The gallery is designed by the world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma.日本の老舗ギャラリーの一つであるホワイトストーン・ギャラリーが創業50周年を迎える2017年に、4番目のスペースとなるギャラリーを台北にオープンした。ギャラリーの設計をが手掛けたのは、日本を代表する世界的な建築家・隈研吾。

Whitestone Gallery opened the Karuizawa New Art Museum in Karuizawa (a popular mountain plateau resort town) in 2012. To develop their aim of introducing talented Japanese artists overseas they opened another gallery in Hong Kong in 2015. Now, Taipei gallery allows them to approach the wider Asian market.

Kengo Kuma, who designed the space in Taipei, also designed the National Stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The gallery features Kuma’s signature style of merging cypress wood into the structure of a building. The space Inside the gallery is true to his minimalistic white cube style. Seven meter high ceilings enable this gallery to host groundbreaking exhibitions and installations.
