Hongo Shin Memorial Museum of Sculpture, Sapporo is located in Miyanomori where is the suburb of Sapporo city. Shin Hongo (1905-1980) sculpted a monument札幌・宮の森の閑静な住宅街にておしゃれな家を見ながら石畳の道を登ると辿り着く「本郷新記念 札幌彫刻美術館」。本郷新（1905〜1980）は、札幌市民なら誰もが目にしたことがあるであろう大通公園のモニュメント「泉の像」（1959）の作者である。

本郷は日本中に大きな記念碑を残しているが、札幌市出身ということもあり、稚内市の「氷雪の門」（1963）、戦没学生記念像「わだつみのこえ」（1950）、札幌の第11回冬季オリンピック記念碑「雪華の舞」（1971）等、北海道で多数の作品を創り上げた。1978年、彼が72歳の時には北海道文化賞を受賞している。

その２年後に亡くなった本郷氏が晩年アトリエトして使用していた建物を記念館とし、隣接地に本館を建設し札幌彫刻美術館として1981年に開館。本郷新の彫刻作品等を常設展示し、定期的に展示替えを行う他、本郷ゆかりの人物の作品展示を企画展として行っている。

周辺は、円山公園や、大倉山、宮の森美術館が徒歩圏内なので、天気の良い日は時間をかけて散策するのもいいだろう。

The museum used be a private atelier of Hongo and it was renovated to museum in 1981. It has permanent exhibitions of Hongo and people who are related with him.
The museum is surrounded by Maruyama Park, Okurayama mt., and Miyanomori Art Museum, so it is good area you can take time walking around on sunny afternoon.
