Assembly New York moved its space to two buildings away in October 2010, and now has a much bigger place to show its identity. Its interior scheme is based on beautiful white with antique props2010年10月に同じブロック内に店を移転し、以前と比べ営業スペースが何倍にもなったロウアー・イーストサイドにあるアセンブリー・ニューヨーク。白を基調としているが、綺麗すぎることなく、アンティーク（オーナーが道端で拾ってきたものも多々あり）の丁度品、時代の先を行くデザインの商品で彩られており、過去、現在、未来をかき混ぜたようなお店の雰囲気を感じる。訪れた人々は思わず歩調を緩めてしまうこのお店は、ロサンゼルスの有名セレクトショップ「スカウト」のスターティングメンバーであるグレッグによって2008年にスタートした。
ブランドのセレクトも、昨年コラボレーションしたニューヨークの新鋭デザイナー、ロバート・ゲラーや、ア・デタシェ、クロニクル・オブ・ネバー、オズボーン・オックスフォードなどのデザイナーアイテムから、一点ものの価値があるビンテージなど、世界各国から多種多様な商品を取り扱っている。それでも一体感があるのは、グレッグの優れた観察眼と、商品一つ一つに対する深いこだわりがあるからだ。
積極的にアーティスト達とコラボレーションを行い、2010年には、自身のオリジナルブランドもスタートさせた。まだオープンして間もないのだが、ロウアー・イーストサイドを代表するお店になった、常に先を見て変化し続けるアセンブリー・ニューヨーク。オーナーのグレッグが今度は何を見つけてくるのか、とても楽しみだ。

Text: Ryo Miyamoto, and selected designers’ collections are beautifully displayed. It brings a feeling as if you are at the intersection point of future, present and past. Assembly New York is founded by Greg Armas who was a starting member of famous LA boutique, SCOUT. He moved to New York in 2008 and decided to open the store to play a role as hub for up-coming designer information and fashion resource.
There are various designers who are selected from all over the world through Greg’s keen eyes such as NY-based designer Robert Geller who collaborated with Assembly New York and opened a pop-up store in 2009. It also carries A Detacher, Chronicles of Never, Osborn Shoes, and hard-to-find vintage pieces.
Greg also started his in-store collection, Assembly New York. Although he opened the store only few years ago, Assembly New York has already become one of the iconic stores in Lower East Side area. I am very looking forward to see what next Greg is going to bring to us.
