into a building complex opposite the Riachuelo — to the National Council of Education, the De La Ribera Theatre (The Riverbank Theatre) opened on October 27th 1971 with the play In those days in La Boca. The title alluded of course to the traditional neighbourhood of La Boca, where the theatre is located, and which Quinquela genuinely reflected in most of his inspired works. De La Ribera Theatre at 1821, Pedro de Mendoza Avenue in the Vuelta de Rocha itself, offers 643 seats distributed in the stalls that sit 475 and a dress circle with 168 seats. The proscenium is 11.30 m wide and the stage is 14 m deep. The wide hall and the function room are ornamented with 8 huge murals especially made by Quinquela Martin. As national schools became municipally or provincially run, the theatre was put within the orbit of the Buenos Aires City Government and therefore it is now part of the Buenos Aires Theatre Complex.
