Architecture and Design Museum, known as MARQ is located near the railway along the Retiro station in Retiro district. Originally the building of this museum was used as a water tank belonging to the Retiro railway station建築デザイン美術館、通称MARQはブエノスアイレスのレティーロ地区、レティーロ駅そばの鉄道沿いに位置している。もともとはレティーロ駅鉄道局の水タンクとして利用されていた建物をそのまま美術館にし、2000年にオープン。アルゼンチンで唯一、建築とデザインを専門にした美術館だ。アルゼンチンの建築家協会により運営されている。
建物自体は1915年に建てられたイギリス式鉄道建築。小面積ではあるが、レンガ造りのレトロな外観がリベルタドール大通りで一際目を引いている。建築に使用されたレンガ、梁、金属プロファイル、パイプ、ポンプなど、すべての素材はイギリスから直接輸入されたもの。
建築、デザイン（工業デザイン、グラフィックデザイン、テキスタイル）、都市開発における現在進行形のプロジェクトや作品を展示している。４つの展示ホールに階段スペース、そして屋外のガーデンスペースでは彫刻やインスタレーション作品を展示。
過去話題を呼んだ展示会には、「フランク・ロイド・ライト回顧展」、「アルゼンチンが見た日本建築」、「デザインイコン-フランス・アルゼンチン」などがある。
ブエノスアイレスの文化保存地区ともいえるレコレッタに隣接しており、パレ・ド・グラス、ブエノスアイレス国立美術館、レコレタ文化センター、ブエノスアイレス現代美術館と並んで重要アートサーキットの一員を担っている。クロリンド・テスタ、シーザー・ペリ、など、数々の著名建築家やデザイナーを生み出し続けているアルゼンチン。ユネスコデザイン都市にも指定されているブエノスアイレスに来たらアートめぐりの一環として是非訪れてほしいおすすめスポットだ。

Text: Mami Goda, but later opened as a museum in 2000. This is the first and unique museum dedicated to architecture and design in Argentina which is operated by the Argentine central society of Architects.
The building itself was built in 1915 in British style railway construction. Despite its comparatively small space, the museum attracts the eyes on Libertador avenue by its remarkable retro brick style. Whole material used for the construction such as bricks, beams, metal profiles, pipes, pumps, etc., were imported directly from UK.
The museum exhibits architecture, design (industrial design, graphic design, textile, etc) and urban development ongoing projects works. Contains 4 exhibition hall spaces, a stairs hall and a garden space where sculptures and installations are exhibited.
Among sensational past exhibitions, there were “restrospective Frank Lloyd Wright”, “Japanese architecture seen by Argentina” “Design Icon- France-Argentina”.
Adjacent to Recoleta cultural conservation district where you meet Palais de Glass, National Museum of Buenos Aires, Recoleta Cultural Center, MALBA (Latinamerican art museum of Buenos Aires), etc., the MARQ figures as one of the most important locations of the Buenos Aires art circuit. Argentina continues to produce a number of prominent architects and designer such as Clorindo Testa or Cesar Pelli. Also knowing that Buenos Aires has been designated as a design city by UNESCO, the MARQ can not help being an important spot of art circuit in Buenos Aires.
