能取湖Lake Notoro
Lake Notoro is a sea lagoon located in Abashiri Quasi-National Park in the city of Abashiri, north of Hokkaido. It is known for its carpet of glasswort that turns red in every autumn北海道の道北、網走市にある湖、能取湖（のとろこ）。網走国定公園に含まれる海跡湖で、毎年秋になるとサンゴ草の深紅の絨毯が一面に広がることで知られている。
サンゴ草は、塩分の多い湿地に生える一年草。能取湖畔は国内最大規模の群生地で、その広さは約４ヘクタール。正式名は「アッケシソウ」だが、秋になると赤く変化することからサンゴ草と呼ばれている。
見頃は限られているが道北へ秋に訪れる際はぜひ立ち寄りたい場所だ。

The glasswort is an annual grass that grows in salt marshes. Notoro Lagoon is one of the nation’s largest place where the grass grows in clusters, with about 4 hectares of the area. The glasswort is called “Sango-sou” (coral grass), as it turns red in the autumn.
The best time to view is limited, but it is recommend place when visiting north of Hokkaido in the fall.
