吉蔵 福岡店Kichizo
Japanese sweetshop “Kichizo” fukuoka branch is located in the quiet residential area adjacent Ropponmatsu Campus of Kyushu University. It was opened in here about 5 years ago after main store in Omuta九大六本松キャンパス横、閑静な住宅街の中に位置する「和菓子処 吉蔵 福岡店」。大牟田にある本店に続き、ここ六本松の地に５年ほど前に開店した。
引き戸を開けて店内に入ると、すぐ目の前にあるショーケースには和菓子がきれいに陳列されている。それらは皆、毎日店主が本店から運んできたものだ。
そこに並ぶのは、胡桃餅(140円)、銅鑼焼(150円)、巻いた笹の葉が香る麩まんじゅう(170円)などの生菓子が主。商品構成は基本的には本店と同じで、季節によって商品に押す印など、見た目が少し変わったりすることがあるという。
商品に対するこだわりを店主伺うと、『安心安全。それから“きれいな甘さ”。』と答えてくれた。“きれいな甘さ”というのは、決して甘すぎない和菓子を指しているのではない。上品な甘さが和菓子には必要だということだ。
店内奥には座敷や小さなスペースがあり、お茶や習字、三味線などの教室が行われている。店主自らも月に一回、和菓子教室を開いているという。
この福岡店が入っているのは「木香庵」という古い趣漂う家屋。その壁や建物全体に緑が生い茂って、周囲の落ち着いた環境に溶け込んでいる。
静かにたたずむその家屋は、民宿としても使われており、また「吉蔵」閉店後には入れ替わりでバーが営業している。
この福岡店に訪れた際には是非、「吉蔵」の和菓子と共に「木香庵」の周りに流れる空気も味わって欲しい。

Entering the shop with opening the sliding door, there is a showcase that Japanese sweets displayed beautifully in front. The owner of the shop brings them from main store everyday.
Fresh sweets like a walnut rice cake, Dorayaki (two small pancakes with bean jam in between), a steamed bean-jam wheat gluten bun rolled by bamboo leaf are main menus in here. Selections of goods are basically same as main store, changing looks slightly as adding marks on goods.
The owner of the shop answered a question about “what is focused on most about his sweets”, “safe relief and beautiful sweetness”. Beautiful sweetness means that Japanese sweets need elegant sweetness, does not indicate moderately sweet.
There are some lessons such as the tea ceremony,calligraphy,samisen (three- stringed Japanese banjo at small drawing room behind the shop. The owner himself takes monthly Japanese sweets lesson.
This Fukuoka branch is in a part of old house “Mokkoan” that overgrown verdures on the wall and whole building get along with quiet neighboring environment. The silently stood old house is used as a guesthouse as well as a bar is open after “Kichizo” closes.
