Shibuya, a cultural crossroads, is always known to create the latest culture located very close to Shibuya Station, SUNDAY ISSUE provides a unique mixture of a gallery space多くのカルチャーが交錯し、常に新しい文化発信の地として知られる都市、東京・渋谷。SUNDAY ISSUE（サンデイ・イシュー）は渋谷駅のほど近くにある、ギャラリースペース、ブックコーナー、ラウンジバーと３つの顔をあわせ持ったユニークなスペースだ。訪れる人達に、アート、カルチャー、人などジャンルを越えた新しい出会いの場を提供してくれる。
「SUNDAY ISSUE」というネーミングは、新聞の日曜版のイメージから生まれた。文化的な関心事が集まる場所でありながら、のびやかな雰囲気が感じられる空間でありたいという気持ちが込められている。訪れた人同士が奥のギャラリーを覗きつつ、気さくに語らえるラウンジバー。ギャラリーでは、今最も注目を集めるアーティストの展覧会や、イベントが開催されている。ブックコーナーには選りすぐりの古書が美しく展示されており、販売も行われている。よく観察するとカードを引いて「自分にぴったりの１冊」を選んでくれる簡単な占いコーナーもある。ゆったりとくつろげるソファーに腰掛けながら、時間をかけて自分好みの１冊を選ぶのも良いかもしれない。
日常に不可欠な要素が同時に存在し、カテゴリによる分断や拒絶を無くして全てを横断的に味わうことができるこの空間は夢のような場所である。『思ってもいなかった新しい価値観との出会いや、なんとなく敷居が高いと思って尻込みしてしまう人がアートと出会うきっかけになれば』また、『ここで展示をしたアーティストが世界にはばたいて活躍してくれることがもう一つの夢である』とSUNDAY ISSUEの立ち上げから運営まで手がける太田メグ氏は語る。
スタッフの方は皆温かく、訪れる人との距離が近い。ふらっとお茶をしに立ち寄った人がアートに触れる、展覧会を見に来た人が思わぬ本との出会いに遭遇する。普段は交流する機会の無い人同士が話すチャンスを得る。この場所は、これからもそんな出会いの化学反応を起こし続けてくれるだろう。

Text: Shinobu Ono, a book corner and a lounge bar, introducing its visitors to art, culture and people, regardless of genres.
“SUNDAY ISSUE” gets its name from the image of a newspaper: culturally stimulating in a relaxing sunday morning ambience. The lounge bar is for the visitors to mingle, watching the backyard gallery displaying the latest art exhibits and events. In the book corner, selected antique books, which are beautifully displayed, can be purchased. There is also a small space for “Book Tarot”: where you can pick a card that tells you your book of the day. Kick back and relax on a comfortable sofa, taking your time to pick up your absolute favorite.
This is an ideal place where all the daily-indispensable elements are together all at once and can be appreciated exhaustively without categorization nor borders. “I wanted to make people meet with new values, for example, initiating hesitant art beginners.” says Megu Ota, Founder and Owner. “I also want to send the young artists from here to the world.”
The warm and friendly staff members will welcome you. Coffee drinkers will find themselves absorbed with the art. Spectators may happen to meet a masterpiece book. Strangers get a chance to talk with each other. SUNDAY ISSUE is where all the chemistry happens.
