The art scene in Stockholm is boosted by a range of independent galleries making efforts to present the work from new and established artists in and out of Scandinavia. Many of the artists you will find hereストックホルムのアートシーンは、北欧内外の新人、有名アーティストを世に送り出そうとする個々の独立したアートギャラリーが牽引している。

are included in museum collections and exhibited at large exhibitions. The gallery in fact collaborates with museums and larger institutions.

A very important part for this independent art galleries is located in the upper part of the Vasastan district, a vital and important arena for the Stockholm art scene. In Vasastan you find many galleries but specifically in this upper area just together in barely 400 meters one to each other, in the same block in the streets of Hälsingegatan and Hudiksvallsgatan.

We find six galleries: Galleri Andersson/Sandström, Galleri Flach+Thulin, Galleri Crystal Palace, Galerie Nordenhake, Galleri Christian Larsen and Galleri Andréhn-Schiptjenko. They complement themselves to each other due their different aims and styles. In fact, it is a great opportunity to visit them on their buzzing joint opening nights! You can easily walk from one gallery to another, enjoying different artistic proposals and some wine.

Galleri Andersson/Sandström was born out of the vision of director Stefan Andersson, when he in the 1980 bought an old frame and art shop in Umeå, in northern Sweden. Since then the gallery has been expanding and in 2008 the Stockholm branch was opened in the gallery district of upper Vasastan.

Galleri Andersson/Sandström is mainly focused on three-dimensional works, and represents both internationally known artists as well as Swedish up and coming ones. An eclectic mix which delights the diverse audiences visiting the gallery. The gallery has a special interest in outdoor sculpture and public commissions.

The gallery is very proud to have curated an exhibition with works by Louise Bourgeois shortly before her passing, in May 2010. In the words of gallery director Elisabeth Blennow –“She was not only a very dear and inspiring person, but was, and still is, a true artistic force”.
