仙台市歴史民俗資料館Sendai City Museum of History and Folklore
Sendai City Museum of History and Folklore is the oldest western timber construction exists in Miyagi prefecture established in 1894. It was for army institution for 70 years宮城県内では最古の洋風木造建築物で、仙台市有形文化財（建造物）にも指定されている仙台市歴史民俗資料館。建物は明治７年（1874）９月に完成し、昭和20年（1945）8月までの約70年間を旧陸軍が使用し、第二次大戦後は米軍が駐留、さらにその後は、昭和50年（1975）まで東北管区警察学校として利用されていた歴史的なもの。昭和52年（1977年）、一帯の公園整備に伴い、現在の場所に移築、復元され、現在は仙台の歴史民俗関係の資料を収集・保管・展示公開する場として多くの人々に親しまれている。
JR仙台駅と楽天球団のホームである宮城スタジアムの中ほどに位置し、仙台駅から徒歩でも約20分程度。館内では仙台近郊の農村の暮らし、町場の暮らしなどをテーマとする常設展示のほか、一年を通じ様々な企画展も開催されている。また、好天時にはすぐ前の芝生広場でジョギングをする人々やくつろぐ親子連れでにぎわう。
庶民の歴史をわかりやすく知ることができる施設であり、建築物としても貴重な財産といえる。

休館日：月曜（休日の場合は翌日）・休日の翌日・第４木曜（12月・休日の場合は開館）・年末年始・その他くん蒸に伴う臨時休館

Text and photo: Naoki Koide. After that, US military took over for a while and also became Tohoku police academy. Finally, in 1977, the institution renovated and turned into the museum.
It is located in between Sendai station of JR line and Miyagi stadium, the home ground of Rakuten Eagles. It takes 20 minutes by walking from Sendai station. The exhibition introduces firm and city living of Sendai. It is the museum of local culture and also a rare western constructional estate.
