札幌の中心部、ススキノの南側に広がる市民憩いの広場「中島公園」。季節ごとに楽しめるこの公園の入り口から西に５分ほど歩くと目の前に横長のガラス張りのロビーが見えてくるNakajima Park, spread out on the south side of Susukino in the center of Sapporo, is a place where people can relax and can enjoy seasonally。それが札幌コンサートホール「Kitara (キタラ)」だ。
「どの席に座っても最高の音を鑑賞できるように」と、この難題をクリアすべく、最新の音響技術を結集して1997年に造られたアリーナ型の大ホールでは、最高級の響きが生まれる。ここでは音楽との一体感をからだ全身で感じることができるのだ。
大ホールの正面に立つ大オルガンは、フランス・ストラスブールでオルガンの伝統的なスタイルを守る「アルフレッド・ケルン社」が、「Kitara」のために２年の歳月をかけて製作したもの。やわらかな銀色に輝くパイプは鉛とすずの合金で、北海道の針葉樹林をモチーフとしたデザインがほどこされている。
２階バルコニー席をもつ伝統的なシューボックス型の造りの小ホールでは、室内楽やピアノ、声楽のリサイタル、日本の伝統音楽など、こまやかな音のひとつひとつまで明瞭に味わうことができる。

Their aim was for everyone to appreciate optimum sound. To carry it out, the main hall was made in an arena-style with a concentration of the latest sound technology, so the best sounds are produced here. You can feel sense of unity with music with all your senses.
There is an organ built by one of the world’s most distinguished organ builder from Strasbourg, France Alfred Kern. They keep up a traditional style of organ. The softly shining silver-colored pipes are made of alloys of lead and tin. They are designed after the needle-leaved trees of Hokkaido.
The small chamber music hall was made in a traditional shoebox-style with balcony seats on the second floor. The audience can appreciate every delicate sound in performances of chamber music, piano and Japanese traditional music, as well as vocal recitals. You will be able to feel slight tension because of this closeness.
