Wooden, bamboo, lacquering, sizes, tori-bashi…there are more than 500 types of chopsticks and more than 150 types of chopstick rests in the shop. The price is also diversely ranges from 600 yen to 16,000 yen. Designs are 90% original木・竹・塗・サイズ・取り箸など箸メインで500種類以上、はしおきも150種類程。価格も600円～16000円のものまで幅広い。デザインは９割オリジナルのものだ。
神戸箸屋は、1990年に兵庫県神戸市の南京町からスタートした。その当時はたった２坪ほどの大きさだったという。ＴＶや旅行雑誌などに多数取り上げられ、「お箸のことならここ」と一躍有名店となった。現在の店舗は2011年10月に移転リニューアルオープンしたばかり。一見ギャラリーのようでもある店内に箸がずらりと並べられ、実家のお母さんを想い出させるような店長さんが笑顔で出迎えくれる。実際に手にとって触ることができ、重さや長さ、太さや触り心地などを確かめながら選べる。どんな風に選べばよいかわからない、なんて相談も気軽にできるお店だ。
食事と私たちをつなぐ架け橋ともなる箸は、シンプルに「食」に一番身近なもの。店頭で購入するのは女性が８割だそう。スタッフは全員女性で女性の目線で細かい部分にこだわり使い手の身になってモノづくりをしている。
常連客やよりコアなお客様のために、2008年にことほぎやという箸の完全予約制のオーダーメイドサロンも立ち上げた。ゆっくりとお話を伺いながらお客様のご希望に合ったお箸を提供する空間である。結婚や還暦のお祝いなどのギフト依頼も多い。

Kobe Hashiya started in 1990 in Nankinmachi in Kobe City in Hyogo prefecture. It was a store with only 7 square meters back then. The store got introduced on TV shows and travel magazines and people started to say, “This is the place to ask about chopsticks,” which it became famously known for. The current shop was moved and renovated in October 2011. Chopsticks are lined up in an art gallery-like store interior, and the store manager, who will remind you of a Japanese countryside mother, welcomes you with a big smile. Chopsticks can be chosen by actually lifting them with your hands, observe their weights, lengths, thicknesses, and texture. It is a cheerful and homey store, where asking “How should I choose a pair of chopsticks?” is a decent question.
Chopsticks are a bridge that connects food and us, and are simply an object that is closest to the act of eating. 80 percent of the customers who purchase products are women. Staff members are all female who look at details from the female perspective and create products for good of the users.
For the regular customers and the fans, a custom-made salon with appointment-only regulation called Kotohogiya opened in 2008. It is a salon that carefully listens to the customer’s requests and provides visitors with their ideal chopsticks. There are many people who visit the salon to look for their friend’s wedding present or their parent’s kanreki (60th birthday) present.
