1A空间自1998成立，由一群香港艺术工作者发起及组成，是一个非牟利的视觉艺术组织，目标为推动香港及国际当代视艺的创作及探讨。1A空间由节目委员会负责运作，董事会管理。 1A空间的营运资金主要来自资助及捐献1A Space, founded in 1998, is an independent, non-profit making contemporary visual art organization and art venue founded by a collective of Hong Kong artworkers1998年に設立された1A スペースは現代ビジュアルアートのための独立非営利組織であり、香港の芸術従事者たちの資本で設立されたギャラリーである。国内外の最先端の作品で構成されるプログラムを通して、現代視覚芸術の散種を発展させることを目指している。
1Aスペースはディレクター協会が管理する委員会が運営し、国内外の芸術従事者からなるアドバイザーがそれを支援する。1Aスペースの運営資金は補助金や個人の寄付からなり、経営の一部は香港芸術発展局（HKADC）が担っている。
歳月を経て、いまや1Aスペースは香港の現代ビジュアルアート組織のリーダーとして認められるまでに発展を遂げた。これまで70以上の展示や活動を行い、国際交流や文化活動、芸術祭やアートに関連した地域活動、芸術教育、批評活動や出版等に積極的に従事する中で、1Aスペースは香港や海外においてビジュアルアートの最先端を切り開く役割を果たしてきたのだ。
現代ビジュアルアートを広く一般に浸透させ、人々に身近なものにしたのは、彼らの大きな功績のひとつである。

Translation: Shiori Saito. It aims to promote the critical dissemination of contemporary visual arts practices and affiliated artforms through 1A Space programme drawn from Hong Kong and international arena.
1A Space is operated by the Program Committee, governed by a Board of Directors and augmented by an Advisory Panel of local and international artworkers. Operation funding of 1A Space has been assisted by grants and private donations. 1A Space’s administration is partially supported by Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Throughout the years, 1A Space has developed a reputation as Hong Kong’s leading contemporary visual art organization. 1A Space has produced and organized more than 70 exhibitions and activities, and has been active in international exchange, cultural activities and festivals, as well as interactive community arts, arts education, arts criticism and publications. 1A Space has played a vital role in developing new frontiers for the visual art scene in Hong Kong and abroad.
One of its major achievements has been to establish contemporary visual art within a wide viewing public, making it more popular and accessible.

经过多年来的努力，1A空间已发展成香港主要的当代视觉艺术机构之一。迄今，1A空间已制作及策划超过一百个展览和活动，当中包括国际交流、文化节、社区互动艺术、艺术教育、艺术赏析、艺术评论和出版。1A空间于开拓香港视觉艺术的新领域上，担当着积极的角色。其中重要的贡献是著力于当代视觉艺术的推广，令其更为普及和易于参与，并扩阔观众参与的层面。
