Acros Fukuoka was built in 1995 as a new landmark of Fukuoka city. It includes a variety of facilities such as Fukuoka Symphony Hall, International Conference Hall, Arena Hall福岡の新たなランドマークとして1995年に建設された「アクロス福岡」は、福岡シンフォニーホールをはじめ、国際会議場、演劇にも使用される円形ホールや多目的スペースのイベントホールなど、バラエティ豊かな施設が揃う複合施設。
ステップ状の建物全体が屋上庭園となっていて、ひとつの山のように見える緑溢れる建築物は、環境緑化にも寄与し、また多くの建築賞を受賞している。設計の基本構想は、建築とランドスケープとを融合させるプロジェクトを数多く手掛ける世界的なデザイナー、エミリオ・アンバースと日本設計、竹中工務店の共同によるもの。
建物内は吹き抜けのアトリウムにより開放感に溢れ、ステップガーデンの１階から５階まで流れる滝、最上階展望台は四季の植物を巡るように設計されており、まさに都会のオアシスとして市民に愛されている。
２階の匠ギャラリーでは、福岡県の伝統工芸品を常設で展示、その制作風景などをビデオ放映している他、週替わりで県内の民工芸品作家による作品展も開催している。福岡へ訪れた際は、ぜひ伝統工芸品にも注目してみて欲しい。

One of the outstanding feature of the building is the garden roof that steps down floor to floor, which received a number of architectural awards. The main concept of the architecture was collaborated with Takenaka Corporation and Emilio Ambasz and Associates, Inc. who is famous for their design integrating architecture and landscape.
The building is designed with an atrium which gives an open air to the interior space, a waterfall runs through the step gardens from 5th floor to the round and you can enjoy seasonal plants on the top floor observatory.
Takumi Gallery on the 2nd floor showcases Fukuoka’s traditional crafts and you can view a video of the making of the craft. They also features exhibitions of Fukuoka’s craftsmen’s work weekly. You should check out the traditional crafts of Fukuoka.
