Renowned with its 400 years old history, even in the overseas, the Hakata Doll, a Japanese traditional craft piece is a pride of Fukuoka. Shogetu-do hosts one of400余年の歴史を持つ海外でも評価の高い、福岡が誇る日本の伝統工芸品「博多人形」。松月堂は、売場面積、品揃ともに国内最大級で、本場一流の名匠の作品を豊富に取り揃えており、常設展示総数は400種800点にも及ぶ。

Japan’s largest floor space and line up for selling the dolls. A large selection of authentic works by respected masters is also displayed and the total numbers of the permanent collection ranges from 400 to 800 pieces.

There exists several theories for the origins of Hakata Dolls, but its history is known to have started around 1600, when Doll Makers started to carefully crafts each doll with great care, a tradition of craftsmanship that still continues to date.

The values of the Hakata Doll lies in the grace of a traditional beauty, the purity of a child, the solemnity of a Nou/Kabuki performance and the exciting energy of a warrior. The current masters devote their time in studying western paintings, sculptures and even human anatomy, in order to create naturalistic and elegant Hakata Dolls.

The expressions of each Hakata Dolls vary delicately. It is highly recommended to take a close look.
