ロッテルダムはユニークな建築物が多いことで良く知られている。それを代表するのが、このキューブ・ハウス。キューブ・ハウスの１つがミュージアムとして公開されていてRotterdam has been well-known for its architecture. One of the famous architecture of the city is Kubuswoningen (Cube-house). The Kijk-Kubus (Show-Cube) is a fully finished museum house、ここでどのような生活ができるのか、内部を見ることができる。
キューブ・ハウスは、オランダの建築家ピエト・ブロムの実験的なアイディアによって設計された。1978年に集合住宅として計画され、1984年に38戸のキューブ・ハウスが完成。商業テナント、学校や、アパートメントとして販売された。

http://www.kubuswoning.nl. The interior is especially designed and custom made to give the visitor and impression of how one can live in a cube-house.
The cube-house is a design of the Dutch architect Piet Blom. He thought of his design as an (abstract) tree and of the total complex (Blaak Heights) as a wood (=village). Blom’s first drafts originate from 1973/74. The first drafts of the Rotterdam version were presented in 1978. The construction of the cube-house started in March 1978 and 38 cube-house was completed mid 1984. They were sold as commercial space, a school building, an apartment tower.
The cube-house could be called an architectonic experiment, in which Blom has considered form, aesthetics and spatial effects of greater importance than functionality and practical purpose. Living in a cube (the top) reminds of treehut which is accessible through the pole (the trunk). An “archetypical” way of living really.
