1. The Survival of my cat, Tiea
My cat Tiea developed an eating disorder and therefore something called "fatty liver syndrome" wherein the body essentially starts to consume itself.
My girlfriend Sandi and I had to feed Tiea liquid food three times a day with a syringe.
The syringe had to be inserted into a tube which led directly into Tiea's stomach through a very risky surgical incision in her side. On top of the feeding, we had to take her to the veterinarian once a week to have her bandages changed. She's totally fine now.
2. Disneyworld
Sandi and I travelled to Florida to visit Disneyworld with my Mom, my Sister, her Husband and their two kids.
Good times. We stayed for a week and had lot's of fun. Highlights include all-you-can-eat dinner at Ponderosa, Disney's Animal Kingdom, and sitting by the pool at the resort. We
drove all the way there - 26 hours of straight driving with only washroom and food stops.
3. Shift
Contributing to Shift has been good for me. It's forced me to get out of my house more often and start writing again. I used to write a lot, but never for anything other than my own journals. Other than a few late assignments, I hope I've been doing an okay job and I hope to improve throughout 2003.
4. Teaching
2002 was my second year instructing a 6 week course at the Ontario College of Art and Design. This year I taught fourth year Illustration and got lot's of positive feedback from my
students and the college. Teaching is great. It really feels good to see that you've passed on something you've learned and really helped someone else.
In the future I'd like to get more involved in teaching.
5. Amoeba Corp
Amoeba Corp. is my design company with partners Michael Kelar and Ryan
Smolkin. Although 2002 (our 6th year) was a hard year for our industry,
we feel that we've done quite well. We're working with some great
clients
(big and small) as well as developing some interesting self-initiated
projects. One of our goals has always been to balance our
corporate/commercial work with more socially/culturally responsible
projects and 2002 was the year where I feel like we struck a really
good, healthy balance. We have a very talented team of people and 2003
looks like it's going to be a fun one.
