Yokohama has been grown as a trading city since 150 years ago when a port of Yokoyama was opened. BankART 1929 is an experimental program of creation of culture and art150年前の開港時から国内外の様々なものや人が行き交う交易都市として成長してきた横浜。「バンカート1929」は、その歴史的建造物と港湾のロケーションを活用している、文化芸術創造の実験プログラムだ。
「バンカート（BankART）」とは、1929年に建てられた２つの元銀行を、芸術文化に利用するという意味を込めた造語。赴きのある外観は歴史を感じさせるが、地域市民や専門家、海外からの提案を幅広く受け入れ、横浜トリエンナーレとの連動、主催事業や町づくり政策など、交易都市として国内外での開けた活動を展開している。
現在は、旧日本郵船倉庫を利用した「バンカート・スタジオNYK」に活動を集約し、ショップ、パブ＆カフェ、スタジオなども増え、「バンカート」の基本理念である文化芸術の発信の場へと成長をしている。

The term BankART was intentionally created with the combination of words between Bank as the building was formally bank building constructed in 1929, and Art as using the building for artistic and cultural activities. Accepting suggestions from the local public, professionals, and other contries, BankART provides various events and activities including hosting business, urban development, working closely with Yokohama Trienale. The activities will be summarized in BankART Studio NYK where is relocated in the old Nippon Yusen kabushiki Kaisha warehouse, opening more shops, cafes, pubs and studios.
