On August 11th, a lecture and workshop named ‘“The Universe You Pick Up: Message in a Bottle” mission on the earth‘ is to be held at Miyanomori International Museum of Art, Sapporo.

This is the project to create our future on the sense of “the planet humanity.” With the approval of so many astronauts from NASA and JAXA, and staffs, they could get back the bottle which “the universe” has been brought in, after twice mission in the universe. This time, Shiro Matsui an sculptor who suggested this project and a JAXA person in charge of it would be invited as lecturers.

As trying to understand the universe, we tend to describe with an objective or scientific numerical values like the distance, velocity and vacuum. However an art approaches by different ways from means for understanding such a common. It can be translated to “an intuitive figure that we hardly describe with the words.” It’s so interesting approach that artistic expressions as a medium to link various things, such as a human nature and the environment, and people which art originally had been taken on itself, is tied with the space development as a state-of-the-art scientific practice.

Participants for the workshop could directly pick up the “the glass bottle filled up with the universe,” astronauts act as representative of us human have brought on the orbit of the International Space Station. Perhaps, they will send their heart out to people at the universe and our irreplaceable planet floating in space. In addition, they write down messages they each feel. These are to be accumulated on the website of this project as archives, and will be brought word to human in the future.
In this summer, “The Universe You Pick Up: Message in a Bottle” mission on the earth is to start from Hokkaido.
