On August 1st, photographer Keizo Kitajima, will take an event “Changes in the Concept of ‘the Street’,” who is featured in the current IMA Gallery exhibition “THE STREET GOES ON.” He debuted in 1979 with the publication of Shashin Takkyubin Tokyo No.1–12, which captured human relations in the urban environment. Since then, Kitajima has explored the concept of “the street” in various ways.
Kitajima will talk about the changing concept of “the street” with creative director Nobuhiko Kitamura. They will consider the past, present, and future of “the street” in photography, focusing particularly on its conception in post-3/11 Japan, where the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami and the nuclear disaster in Fukushima “suddenly and radically transformed what we considered to be reality.”
※Please note that no simultaneous interpretation will be available for the talk.
