Dal Williams’s exhibition, “Queer Academy: Part One-The Men” will be held at Disjecta from June 4th – 26th. The opening will be held from June 4th, 18:00.

Part one of Queer Academy includes traditional 2D mixed media portraits of famous gay figures such as Harvey Milk, Bayard Rustin and Billy Bean. Artist Dal Ray Williams was inspired by the struggles that young people endure because of their sexuality. “Many of these youths can’t see a positive future for themselves, but we do,” says Williams. He set out to document the images of cultural icons who have contributed widely to society, whether through politics, academics and sports, among others ventures. Williams hopes to inspire faith in those who are struggling with their sexual identity and bring positivity to the lives of young people, reminding them that they are not alone in their journey.
