Ayako Maruta’s exhibit “Suspended Figure” is featured at 1F DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMA, Japan.
This is a space with the assemblage of cables and lamp shade, emulating the traditional space form of arch and column. Originally, the arch is built up from the ground, but this space has a column up in the air and the arch which doesn’t collapse even if cut off in mid-course. This is because what we see as the arch and column is only the assemblage of cables and lamp shades independently suspended from the ceiling. However, people have the image of familiar arch in this space, believing the lamp shade as decoration of the column, and notice the artificiality in the cut off part and column in the air. This sensation shows the intensity of stereotype or the image of the form that we all have.
