SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE.

HAPPENINGText: Francesco Tenaglia

Barry McGhee creates an assault to the perception with his colourful kitschy op-art patterns whereas Ed Templeton loses and opportunity with its “Eulogy for Lost Saliva” that looks like a sentimentalist and naïve montage of photographic souvenirs from loving couples.

Phil Frost, Swamp Bucket, 2008

Philp Frost paintings are intricate webs of colours and basic shapes that remind an obsessive and amphetamines driven version of psychedelic poster art from the sixties, very exciting.

Clare E. Rojas, Untitled, 2008

Clare E. Rojas’ work looks like cutely folksy, just like the re-enactment of the visual heritage of a long forgotten shamanistic culture. The title of the show refers to a superstition, it’s a elements that should be to carried to a marriage to attract good fortune and the allusion is poignant: this breed of ultra-hip US art has come of age and has settled down. Now it’s time to see if they will follow the path of nostalgic enchantment or that of wilder vital attitude.
