MOGOLLON

PEOPLEText: Junko Isogawa

What moved you or gave you strong emotions recently?

The last time we presented the piece Outmigration was very moving. We were physically exhausted but so euphoric at the same time. It’s like that feeling of “It was totally worth it!”

Do you have any dreams or things you want to archive?

We dream to make our own film one day.

What do you think you have been influenced by?

We are inspired by a lot of work from different artists and genres. The ones that come to mind right now are Jack Smith, R. W. Fassbinder, Arnulf Rainer, Agnes Varda, Throbing Gristle, Jean Cocteau, Godard, Buñuel, Caravaggio, Neo Rauch, Hokusai, the French new wave films, the good music, comic books, specially by Daniel Clowes, Robert crumb and Charles Burns, Raymond Pettibon and we love french design.

Which era do you like most, and if you can travel to another era, which era will you go, and why?

Uhm… Maybe the 60’s because of the student movements and how they changed history. Because computers, cell phones and i-pods didn’t exist yet. Everything was more difficult to obtain and therefore more precious to have. Also because of the vinyl, the music, the art, the films, the clothing and the style.

Where do you guys usually hang out? Can you recommend us cool places in Brooklyn?

There is this tiny funky bar in Williamsburg called “Snacky” where we meet every Thursday with friends for beer and sake (a deal they call Zatoichi). They also have great small Japanesse/Chinesse/Korean plates and cool music. There are lots of cool places in Williamsburg and Greenpoint to hang out. We are frequents of CoCo66, enid’s, Diamond, Pencil Factory, Sweet Water, Dumont, Monkey Town and K&M (where Francisco plays records some times).

Do you have any message to your co-workers which you can’t tell usually?

We are only two, so there is no much we keep to ourselves. We are working together all the time and it’s kind of hard to hide any message.

Lastly, could you leave a message to readers?

When you work on something you love and enjoy, then you’re not really working, you’re just having fun most of the time. That’s what we try to do everyday.
