SUMMERCASE 2006

HAPPENINGText: Julio Cesar Palacio

The Second day brought one of the best shows of the whole festival when at 9:00 pm in the Terminal E stage The Divine Comedie appeared, presenting their new album “Victory For The Comic Muse”.

The Divine Comedie

Neil Hannon spread all his charm and sweet irony on stage, playing new and old songs from “Absent Friends” and “Casanova”. The communion with the public was total and he played the role of a dandy and theatrical Romantic cronner in perfection. Brilliant show.

New Order

Happy Mondays brought the 60’s psycodelia and 70’s Funk with a bit of dance. But just at the same time came one of the big deceptions: The anxiously expected New Order appeared with a show almost demolishing their legend by a quite mediocre concert. They tried to make it up with the golden classics like “Blue Monday” and “Bizarre Love Triangle”, but maybe those songs are nowadays to big for the guys, once called New Order.

Rufus Wainwright

At the same time on another stage, the expresionist songwriter Rufus Wainwright was sitting at the piano and was joined in for a few songs by his sister in the chorus. Great to see an artist playing solo without a band, just the voice and an instrument filling the stage.

The journey continued till 6:00 am with shows of Keane, Primal Scream, The Long Blondes and The Chemical Brothers on a dj set.

What can I say about this new born festival? Well, the Summercase in its first edition is already a classic. And we all wait for next year impatiently.
