SEMI-PARMANENT 2003

HAPPENINGText: Nicola Stumpo

The first speakers to open the conference were Matt Owens and Lee from One9ine. They showed a variety of projects from poster art to music videos. They were super funny doing jokes on stage. I was impressed by the quality of their works, and by their colorfull palette that they always use. Matt showed us the preview of his new Volumeone issue and Lee showed his personal drawings from Destroyrockcity too.

The Revolution was second. They are a collective of designers, they showed a huge variety of works mostly done for cultural clients, in the entertainment, fashion and youth cultures. Very interesting projects.

I have always been wondering how the K10K guys are and finally I got the chance to meet them. Other than being extremely friendly they had put together a great presentation under the form of a slide show, explaining in a very hysterically funny way how they came up with the latest design of their company website.

Scien & Klor from 123Klan introduced themselves with a “Rocky” track making the crowd cheering and laughing. Scien made a great job, showing his works, going from the walls to the screen of a computer. Always with a great style and a good choice for colors. They even showed their last book, made in collaboration with Fourskin. While they were showing it, it was already sold out!

A digital production company called Animal Logic was next. I will never be able to understand how you can make such works like this. The quality of the images and the effects applied on some videos were breathtaking.

The first day ended with me having the last speak and all of us going gambling to the casino ’98! Never play against Matt and James. They have gambling in their veins!
