HAPPENING

‘The Restaurant Gives Orders’, Mio Shirai

Mio Shirai reproduced Kenji Miyazawa’s ‘The Restaurant Gives Orders’ in the real world. Vivid colored doors are installed and texts from the book are written on each door. Opening the doors, it makes you feel as if you’re wandering in the world of the book. The fairy invitation has already made lots of visitors open the doors.

Some of the local people were displeased with the signboard initially, but it presents an ironical view to the present situation of Tsumari that it is becoming distant from the wealth and high-technology of a big city, though it’s not far away from Tokyo.

‘Milutown Bus Stop’, Josep Maria Martin

‘Milutown Bus Stop’ by Josep Maria Martin is a series of posters of imaginary movies based on ordinary materials in everyday life in the Inubuse community. Imaginary logos like ‘Inubuse Cinema’ or ‘Niigata Film’ are designed in posters, and they are actually used as a renewed bus stop or advertisement in the station. This project attempts to make a slight change to everyday life and to change local life into something resembling a scene in a film with lively posters.
